Axle Rose (Rescue Orphan – Adopted)

Late in the afternoon of Thursday, Sep 10, 2020, I got a call from a nice man (Matt) who said he had a kitten. The kitten, he said, is about eight weeks old and is in the care of his parents in Sun City. Matt said he had been running errands that afternoon and pulled into a McDonald’s drive-thru. When he rolled down his window to get his food, he asked the McDonald’s worker, “What’s that noise? It sounds like a bird.” The McDonald’s worker said, “I don’t know, but it sounds to me like it’s coming from your car.”

Matt pulled over in the parking lot, and to his surprise discovered a kitten under the car clinging to his axle, which is astonishing in itself because Matt was just doing 65 mph on the highway. Needless to say, the kitten resisted being pulled out from under the car.

So, as my husband Bob and I were listening to Matt’s story on the phone, Bob kept whispering to me, “If it’s a boy, we have to name it Axle.” Anyhow, it was a girl, so we named her “Axle Rose.” I gave Axle Rose a bath, which she endured, but she did not like the blow dryer. She had probably had enough wind in her fur for one day. She ate well and rested comfortably in the foster room. She was sweet with no indications of being feral. If someone did own her, there was no telling where to begin that search. Axle Rose had a vet appointment the next day, and all went well.

14 Sep 2020 update:  Axle Rose tested negative for FIV/FELV, but positive for round worms. And, according to Dr. Hill at Southern Paws, Axle Rose was six weeks old. She is definitely a snuggler. The Big Cats had been ignoring her, but Chloe, one of the foster Sister Moms, started playing with her, which made Rose very happy.

On September 16, 2020, Axle Rose was adopted and left for her new home, so began the next chapters in Rose’s happily ever after story.
